Bravettes fall at regionals
October 10, 2008
Gardner Bonner Springs High School tennis coach Bill Scott knew his team would have its hands full on Thursday at the Class 5A regional tournament at Gardner-Edgerton High School.
For one thing, last year's state runner-up St. Thomas Aquinas was there with most of its 2007 back. For another, BSHS lost six of its top seven players from last year and had just one returning letterwinner at the start of the season.
"It's the most inexperienced team I've ever had," Scott said.
Ironically, his least experienced player also was the top performing Bravette.
Freshman Breanna Tendick was the lone BSHS player to win a match at regionals. She won her first-round match in dominating fashion before falling in the quarterfinals to Nicole Jara of Aquinas. Jara was on the state championship doubles team from last year and switched to singles late this season.
