Bravettes keep close, fall to BLHS
May 15, 2008
The Bonner Springs girls soccer season came to an end Monday night with a 3-0 loss to Basehor-Linwood in Class 5-1A regional play.
The Bravettes’ final record of 2-12 was an improvement on last year.
The Bobcats will advanced to play St. James Academy on Tuesday, where they lost 8-0.
The Bravettes played well for much of the evening by limiting the Basehor attack to only three goals — two by senior forward Jessica Smith and one by sophomore midfielder Elissa Manford.
Bonner Springs seniors Aylssa Kelly and Jessica Hoglund mounted several attacks but were unable to score any goals against the speedy Basehor defense and solid goalkeeping by sophomore Carol Smith.
Kelly and Hoglund now have completed their soccer careers at Bonner Springs but will be remembered by their hard work and dedication to help jump start the program.
“We are improving, you can see it,” Kelly said. “Last year (Basehor) beat us 7-0 and look at today. We are getting better. I just wish it wasn’t my last game.”
BSHS coach Mike Moulin agreed, and he said his team had chances to win on Monday.
“If we finish all the goals and opportunities we had (today), we win the game,” Moulin said. “We moved the ball really well and the girls were making their runs.”
Bonner Springs goalie Tiffany Burgoon, who has been beat up this season, played a good game stopping shot after shot from the Bobcat offense.
“(Burgoon) played solid; they all did. I am very proud of them, we are a young team and I’m looking forward to next year,” Moulin said.
