BSHS swimmers first at WYCO Invitational

The Bonner Springs girls swim team placed first in the WYCO Invitational against Piper-Bishop Ward, Turner and Washington-Sumner on Thursday.

Coach Tierney Thompson was thrilled with the girls’ times in the meet and the overall team effort. She said that the experience prepared her team for its meet Wednesday against Topeka Seaman, Turner, Osawatomie/Paola, Piper-Ward, St. James Academy, Maur-Hill and Washington/Sumner. Results of the meet were unavailable at press time.

Individual results at the WYCO Invitational are as follows:

Teran Holter took first place in the 200 freestyle, at 2 minutes, 32.31 seconds. Emily Herre took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33.86 and finished third in the 500 freestyle in 6:37.60.

Aubree Miller took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:17.48 and took third in the 200 individual medley in 2:51.55. Kaley Withers placed first in the 50 freestyle with the time of 28.55 and finished first in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.51.

Monica Sorensen finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:18.40. Joyce Hilario finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:19.61 and second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:26.46. Jaclyn Lira finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:29.90.

The Bravettes performed well in the relay races also, with the relay team of Withers, Miller, Hilario and Herre finishing first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:09.26. The team of Miller, Lira, Sorensen and Withers finished first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:59.26. The team of Hilario, Lira, Holter and Herre finished first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:35.67.
