Bravettes nab third place at Turner Tournament

The Bonner Springs Bravettes softball team fared well in the Tuner Tournament on Saturday. They went 2-1 and placed third.

Sadie Kelly got the win in the first game by tossing a four-hitter against St. James. Bonner's offense did not do much but, runs scored by Chelsea Parr and Chelsea Crouch stood up for the 2-1 victory. With win propelled the Bravettes into the winner's bracket of the tournament.

In the second game, Bonner Springs had a three-base throwing error in the third inning that led to the only run scored in the 1-0 loss to Ottawa. Ottawa pitchers allowed only four hits and struck out 15 Bravettes. Bonner Springs managed to get the tying run to third base in the seventh inning but could not push it across the plate. Kelly allowed only three hits in the losing effort.

With the loss, BSHS moved on to the third place game against Sumner Academy

The Bravettes finally managed to unleash an offensive barrage, scoring 13 runs on 12 hits in claiming third place in the tournament. Kelly allowed only one run in seven innings for BSHS in the rout of Sumner.

The final game was the team's most complete effort of the season. Carli Turner led the way on offense with two doubles and four runs scored, while Starian Porchia contributed three singles.

Bonner Springs ends its regular season this Monday at home against Basehor Linwood.
