Edwardsville slogan contest winners announced
May 1, 2008
The Edwardsville slogan contest winners have been selected; now all that’s left to decide is which winning entry to use.
Councilmember Chuck Adams said he wanted to start the contest because he realized the city had a “great” crest but didn’t have a slogan. The contest was broken down into two age categories: 12 years and younger and 13 years and older. Participants were asked to submit a slogan that encompassed the essence of Edwardsville in eight words or less.
Before the official winners were announced, Adams shared two honorable-mention entries : “Edwardsville, better than the place you live” and “Edwardsville, on the verge of greatness.”
The third-place winner of a $50 savings bond for 12 and under was Logann Stites with “You’re only a stranger once.” Second-place winner of a $100 savings bond for 12 and under was Jennifer McGee with “Small city, big minded.” First-place winner of a $250 savings bond for 12 and under was Alyssa Bland with “In the know and on the grow.”
Third-place winner of a $50 savings bond for 13 and older was Elijah Gaut with “The place to call home.” Second-place winner of a $100 savings bond for 13 and older was Becky Moad with “Everything you want and more.” First-place winner of a $250 savings bond for 13 and older was Kalsie Spencer with “Small town livin’, big city pride.”
Now that city staff is aware of the winners, Mayor William “Heinz” Rodgers said they would look over the possible slogans and pick one to be printed on various items.

I think these are all great slogans and these children should all be very proud. As for my beautiful daughter Rebecca, all I can say is, as a daughter she is “everything you want and more” and she will always come in first place in her father's heart.
