Saying goodbye to friends makes leaving harder

The year may have gone by a little too quickly, but Felisha Leipard, Bonner Springs High School senior, said she feels nothing but excitement for what she’s about to face.

Leipard will graduate with the rest of her class on Thursday, May 8, and from there she plans to attend Kansas City Kansas Community College in hopes of someday becoming a crime scene investigator.

“It feels really good,” she said. “I’m going to miss high school and the people I’ve been going to school with since elementary.”

Leipard’s most memorable moment during high school came this year when she made it to state for tennis doubles. She has been playing the game for three years and started off the season in singles before making the switch to double only a few weeks before state.

“It was extra special because it was my senior year,” she said. “It was really cool but it took a lot of work. It wasn’t easy at all.”

Leipard said she feels prepared for both the college lifestyle and the classes.

“The further along I got in school, I realized the importance of doing well in school,” she said. “I started out slow and realized later on that’s its really important to me and that you should always try your hardest it you want to succeed.”

Leipard admits her career choice “freaks” people out a little when they first hear about it. But ever since watching the TV drama “CSI,” she said she became hooked to the idea. Leipard doesn’t expect to stick around Bonner Springs forever. She said she suspects a job in crime investigation might be slower than she wants here. She plans to move wherever a job opens up in a big city with the crime to keep her job exciting.

Before all that, Leipard has to make it through graduation. She said as she sits in her chair that day looking around at all the faces she’s known forever, she’ll probably feel a whole mix of emotions.

“Relief will be going through my head that finally I’m done with these four years at high school,” she said. “But at the same time, I can’t believe that I’ll never see most of these people again.”
