2 new faces on school board
The Bonner Springs-Edwardsville School Board gets two new faces with Tuesday's election. As a result of the uncontested races for the at-large seats, Olliea Jarrett, director of Bryant Headstart school, Kansas City, Kan., and Bob DiMaggio will take the places of Connie Hadley and Brett Peterson.
Gregg Gibson, finance director for the Kansas City, Kan., Housing Authority, was elected to his first full term after being appointed to succeed to Sandy Polley after she resigned in August 2006, and David Pierce, a Bonner Springs insurance agent, was re-elected.
On the Kansas City, Kan., Community College Board of Trustees, the four open, at-large seats were won by Ray Daniels, retired Kansas City, Kan., school district superintendent with 5,901 votes; Mary Ann Flunder, broker and consultant, with 5,302 votes; Clyde Townsend, who works at a funeral home, with 4,776 votes; and Donald Ash, a retired Kansas City, Kan., police officer, who received 4,742 votes.
The winners beat out Jimmie L. Banks, who received 4,528 votes;
David K. Duckers, who got 4,288 votes; Rick Kaminski, with 3,828 votes, and LaVert A. Murray, who received 3,967.
Out of 84,420 eligible registered voters, a total of 12,829 voters, or 15.2 percent, cast their ballots in the trustees race.
