Student makes special pillow for ill boy
March 1, 2001
Each year students at Clark Middle School have to complete various projects in Family and Consumer Science class.
Theresa Wild, an eighth-grader, took the class last year and this year decided she would create something special for a Bonner Springs boy who has been hospitalized with a severe illness.
Tony Holmes has been at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., for several weeks, after being infected by group A strep that turned intotoxic shock syndrome, causing numerous complications for the 11-year-old boy.
Wild said she and her family are close friends with the Holmes' family, and she wanted to make something special for Tony.
"We were doing (projects) in FAC's class, and I decided to make one for him," she said.
Wild made a pillow in the shape of bone. A bone may seem odd, but it represents Tony's nickname, T-Bone, which Wild sowed in red letters on the pillow.
